The variety of reactions of the children in this and the other photographs of children often made me stop and try to understand what the photographs meant to them. An interesting aspect to photographing the Vietnamese was a superstition they have of not photographing 3 people in one photograph. Mostly adults would pull out one person or add one if there were 3. I was told if there were 3 one would die.
